This was the flag design in use in 1814, having fifteen stars and fifteen stripes. It is the design of the original “Star-Spangled Banner” that inspired our national anthem. The frame encasing this flag not only references museum conservation of historic flags but our distance in time and culture from the realities of life in these early periods.
