My second work on hardboard was a breakthrough— the first time I used pours, the system whereby I achieve smooth, translucent skies. A couple coats of opaque background color is brushed on and allowed to dry. Then a bit of that color is added to a quantity of liquid alkyd medium, which is poured over the area while the painting is lying flat.
