In 1814 the Statue of Liberty was still decades in the future, thus it is only beginning to thrust itself up from the ground. It presages the great future for America, the long climb to greatness from the low of its having seen the loss and destruction of its Capitol to invaders. This torch is the original design, not the present restored torch.
