These are the giant’s rings, as well as a couple of its other moons. Although I was inspired by the rings of Saturn, these rings do not match those of any of the planets in our solar system. The very oblique angle of the rings and sharp shadow add dramatic effect. This painting was reproduced for “Dixie Buffet,” a review in Art in America (Sept. ’95).
