This painting, being first and least-skilled, is slow in selling, so makes the round of juried shows, generally being the one declined. Consequently it’s indifferently stored for the duration— subsequent dust, deterioration, and even damage an excuse for yet another stint at the easel, resulting in a piece that’s multi-layered and heavily overworked.
