Cities and factories far on the horizon produce mushrooms of light visible for tens of miles. High radio or television antennas come adorned with vertical rows of lamps, arrays of such towers forming grids, sometimes flashing in decorative patterns. Not-so-high towers come topped with a single red bulb. All are beacons for the tired traveler.
