I decided to experiment with minimalist composition— in this case a single object— and negative space, along with zero-depth flat-object format. I was flirting with anti-art. At the time I thought this newspaper photo possessed an unreal disquiet. My technique for reproducing print in graphite was still evolving, and not as sharp-focus as it would become.
