I wonder if this painting wasn’t anything but an excuse to try my hand at painting a nice, straight-on but imaginary example of the urban black box— a brick building with bricked-up windows. They have mystified and fascinated me since childhood. The floodwall was inspired by the one here in Paducah. A crane, lone figure, and lazy UFO complete the scene.
