Anyone who’s ever gotten deep in credit-card debt will identify with this. The inspiration was an old postcard that depicts tourists having their pictures taken in the pillory and stocks at Colonial Williamsburg. The bare feet are an addition of mine, as is the anklet with my monogram, which doubles as the painting’s signature.
