Needless to say I didn’t work four years solid on this painting. I would set it aside for awhile and either work on something else or just bum off for a month or two. The scene outside the tunnel had to be completed first so that the shoring of the walls could be built-up overlapping its edges— I think I had that slick surface done the first year.
