When a person decides to devote all his working time and energy to his art, he has to wonder whether he’s made the right decision or is just going on an ego trip. After he’s been at it long enough though he’ll cease to worry much about the latter at least, any ego well-mitigated by the stiffness of the competition for awards, sales, and paying jobs.
