As a kid I begged Dad to take me to churches— not for religious elocution, but to look up at the ceilings of the sanctuaries in awe. I was really into any and all high ceilings, and churches had the highest ones. Our own Old Bethel Methodist in the outskirts was a modest brick structure, so its ceiling lacked the grandeur of the urban citadels.
