It was before Interstates so if we started late in the day we had to stop and spend the night. In one tired hotel my younger brother and I had to share a narrow roll-in bed, one of us sleeping at either end. The single pillow was given to my brother. I wanted a pillow. I fussed. Mom gave up hers, and Dad made me feel guilty about it.
