There’s something about a deserted highway just after the sun sets. A sense of urgency, apart from any real deadline, manifests itself— nostalgic disquiet, not intrinsically unpleasant, akin to that conveyed visually via the depopulated urban landscapes of the Italian metaphysical painter Giorgio de Chirico.
